New Guinea Photograph Albums 1924-1932.

This series contains approximately 580 black and white and sepia-toned images of the Papua New Guinea mission fields administered first by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States (Iowa Synod) and later the American Lutheran Church. The photographs were originally in two albums, but for preservation purposes were removed and placed in folders. Photographs from the "Aloha" album are from approximately 1929-1932. Photographs from the second album are from approximately 1924. Both albums contain images of various aspects of life in the New Guinea mission field. The "Aloha" album was compiled by William Siemers, but the origin of the second album is unknown. Subject matter of the photographs includes church services, schools, dwellings, hospitals and medical work, missionaries and their families, baptisms, and weddings.
